The communist power established between 1945 and 1947 introduced the new law on Romanian ecclesial denominations in 1948. According to Order No. 42898/13.11.1948 issued by the Ministry of Cult, the four historic Protestant churches (Reformed, Saxon Lutheran, Unitarian, and Hungarian Lutheran) were obliged to maintain a single common institution for the training of their ministers. The bishops decided, and then the churches declared the establishment of the Protestant Theological Institute with University Grade. The newly created institution was officially inaugurated on February 25, 1949, in the building of the former Faculty of Theology of the Reformed Church District of Transylvania (the location of the former Reformed theological training).

The higher education institution, which has since changed its name several times and is now known as the Protestant Theological Institute in Cluj-Napoca, commemorates this event from 75 years ago through a festive event. During the ceremony, leaders of church and state institutions will speak, evaluating this significant decision from 75 years ago in the context of institutional history.
